A group of soldiers is assigned to the newly founded television station YENED, a military-run propaganda channel, as part of their military service in 1967–68. Based on personal experiences, Nikos Perakis’s film transforms the absurdity of the military dictatorship into a biting tragicomedy and portrays an era of oppression with humor, satire, and a masterfully staged political farce.
To mark its 40th anniversary, Greek Film Week is honoring two directors who have made significant contributions to its founding, continuation, and consolidation—both through their personal involvement and through their work and tireless support.
Nikos Perakis was born in Alexandria in 1944. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, where he worked as a set designer, costume designer, and director. After returning to Greece, his films “BIOS+Πολιτεία/ Living Dangerously” and “Προστάτης Οικογένειας/ Pater Familias” stood out for their ability to offer satirical commentary on politics as well as contemporary Greek reality and society.
